SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO
Thursday, July 31st, 2008
Fabriclive mixes are always worth the costly import album coinage and I’m sure this one will be no exception. “Attack Decay Sustain Release” is still causing dance floors to freak outmore than a year later and this mix looks like a continuation of the feel free fun.
Check out all the details HERE and if you live in London or have a private jet you’ll want to head over to Discobelle and enter their album release party contest.
The mix doesn’t drop until August 11th so to tide you over here’s a slick remix of my favorite track off their album…
EDWIN STARR: OH SO FONKY!

Edwin’s most known for his track “WAR” which he apparently did in one take due to the limited amount of studio time (!!!). Everyone loves “WAR” but who knew he was THIS fonky?!? The first 3 minutes are ridiculous.
As an added bonus, here’s another Edwin Starr classic that tells the story of spotting a cutie on the dance floor and just getting after it. HE SENSITIVE!

| TERMANOLOGY |
Soooo refreshing to find out Hip Hop is far from dying with this absolute scorcher from Termanology featuring Bun B and produced by none other than DJ Premier aka the best hip hop producer ever.
This one’s got all the classic elements of all the great Primo tracks; simply dope ryhmes over dope beats.
Bun B DESTROYS it. Look out!
THE B.P.A. – TOE JAM
Wednesday, July 30th, 2008
It’s chock full o’ cool guest artists like Iggy Pop, Martha Wainwright and Ashley Beedle. Iggy Pop sings on a cover of ’70s U.K. rock outfit the Monochrome Set’s “He’s Frank” on the album, while Martha Wainwright guests on the “dubbed-out” “Spade” and Ashley Beedle appears on “Should I Stay or Should I Blow”
This one features N.A.S.A. homey David Byrne and the oh-so-hot-right-now Dizzee Rascal who’s “Dance Wiv Me” has been #1 in the UK for 4 weeks now.
Check out the “Censor Art” labeled video below for the full experience…
EARTHQUAKE!

HOLY SHIT! We just had an earthquake here in L.A. First one I’ve experienced and my bones is still shaking. Luckily it was only a 5.8 (??!?!!?). Hopefully no one out there is hurt.
All I could think of afterwards was this jam. Strangely, it’s helping calm my nerves…
REMIXED MIERCOLES: LARRY LEVAN
Tuesday, July 29th, 2008
Hey Hey, so I figured I’d be doing something wrong by posting up some videos and links about Sir Larry without giving y’all thenuggets!
Gonna try and showcase a different DJ/producer each week for “REMIXED MIERCOLES”. Partly because it’s in the middle of the week and it’s a good excuse to crank it up a notch but mostly because Miercoles is the coolest sounding Spanish translation of the bunch.
Hopefully you’ve already read all about the LL on the previous post (if not go check it out!). In any case, he’s your favorite DJ’s favorite DJ’s favorite DJ. Like the James Brown of DJ’s. A hero to most everyone who’s ever sniffed a piece of vinyl.

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008CHAPOLITO: The Art of Jesse Chapo
Monday, July 28th, 2008| “OBEDIENT” |
Jesse Chapo, an artist out of San Diego, works with pens and paint on birch wood while incorporating different objects and mediums. Up close, the pieces are large and intricately detailed. His work is very fresh, colorful and full of dark imagery that seems to tell a very complicated story.
This was on full display a couple weeks back at my friend’s gallery, Phyllis Stein Art, as part of the Downtown Art Walk going on here in L.A. Head on down if ya wanna check ‘em out in person. I highly recommend it, if only for the crazy ill totem pole!
