CHAPOLITO: The Art of Jesse Chapo

Monday, July 28th, 2008
“OBEDIENT”

Jesse Chapo, an artist out of San Diego, works with pens and paint on birch wood while incorporating different objects and mediums. Up close, the pieces are large and intricately detailed. His work is very fresh, colorful and full of dark imagery that seems to tell a very complicated story.

This was on full display a couple weeks back at my friend’s gallery, Phyllis Stein Art, as part of the Downtown Art Walk going on here in L.A. Head on down if ya wanna check ‘em out in person. I highly recommend it, if only for the crazy ill totem pole!

FLUX CAPACITOR NOT INCLUDED

In related news, Neon Neon have an album out now called “Stainless Style” with a concept revolving around the rise and fall of ’80′s playboy John Delorean

The dynamic duo consists of Boom Bip and Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys. Their record release party at the infamous Viper Room here in L.A. featured 4 vintage deloreans parked right out in front all lined up in a row.

YO YO REDMAN!

REDMAN – JAM 4 U

I was bumping this in the ’93 Jeep this morning on the way to work, feeling all hip hop in the summer-like. Heineken bottle caps and the aroma of brew.

Redman needs zero introduction here but I feel like his first album is chock full of dope album cuts that people might not remember. “Rhythm & Funk makes ya hump like Technotronic I make the Jam Pump”. YES!

PUT ON THAT BOBBY WOMACK

BOBBY WOMACK – DAYLIGHT

Picked up “The Best of Bobby Womack: The Soul Years” last weekend and have been in a stress melting soul coma ever since. So silky, so cozy warm, so necessary for a lazy Sunday Morning.

The track “Daylight” is my top choice not just because it’s funkier than a mosquito’s tweeter but because it tells the story of some party people at 5am grooving to the FM music, getting down in their stockinged feet as the daylight catches up with them again.Gangsta!

Have never been a huge fan of the Reeboks but you were oneHARD MOTHERFUCKER back in the day if you rocked these. Throw in some SKIDZ and one of THESE to the ensemble and no one in their right mind would think twice about stepping to you…
