Classic clip from the most classic-est hip hop film ever made. If you haven’t seen Wild Style, netflix it up immediately! You are sleeping. It’s not only an amazing piece of hip hop history but it’s funny n’ entertaining as well. The acting kinda sucks but there’s some incredible graffiti, breakin’, MC/DJ action, and best of all Fab 5 Freddy.
This is the opening scene where the hero, Zoro (Lee Quinones), gets a stern lecture from his military older broseph who tells him to “stop fucking around and be a man”.
In fact, the brotherly struggle and Zoro’s resistance to his elder’s demands is so inspiring, Nasty Nas used it as the opening to his instant classic debut, illmatic.
Got 3 nuggets for you this week! The first is the original track used in the film, then we’ve got the Nas opener, and lastly, to cap it off with a smiling smirk, we’ve got the Beasties’ “Professor Booty” which uses the coldest diss known to man as the intro to the track.
Check out a quick explanation of the thoughts swimming around Bjork’s fish bowl at the time…
“It’s actually written to a relative of mine who had been a bit out of order for a while. I’m not sure why I wrote it. Maybe I felt that Debut had been such a polite, shy album – there was a side of me that was so shy and such a beginner, I was very flattered when everyone loved Debut but also a bit confused because it wasn’t really me. Maybe ‘Army Of Me’ was an attempt to balance it out.”
Cheeba here, friend of Squeak E. Clean and poster of the weekly CD covers. I’ve got an instrumental funk group called The Cheebacabra. I made a little music video the other night for one of our tracks and wanted to debut it here. Please enjoy:
Here are two other Cheebacabra music videos that don’t involve cruelty to babies or snakes:
Millvina Dean, 96, is the last living survivor of the Titanic disaster. She musta dumped her depends when CreepshowDavid Gest rolled on over for some intimacy. Oh My!
This album is amazing! 80′s funk at it’s finest. Here’s what Dusty Groove had to say about it…
“Massive work from Starpoint — the kind of all-great record that few other groups of their era could hope to match! The set’s got way more going on than the usual 80s groove (although that’s very firmly in place too) — and steps out with a tightness and sense of presence that makes the whole thing sparkle from start to finish!
By the time of this set, Starpoint had really gotten their groove down — and work here as a key link between the bassier groups of the boogie era and some of the hipper ensemble funk combos of the mid 70s scene.”
Back here at the blog, we have a very tasteful remix by Romeo Erotic that somehow manages to take an already great track and meticulously massage it into a dance floor swarmer. Jheri Curls n’ Pleather all around baby.
It is, for some reason, still hot as hellfire outside and the summer vibrations just won’t drift off into Autumn like they should. With this in mind, what better time to hook you up with some Beach Boys treats?
These remixes are a result of DJ/producer Black Lights un-burying a treasure chest full of acapellas for some classic Beach Boys tracks and handing them off to some of California’s most exciting/innovative producers to concoct a clever new twist on the O.G.’s. 9 tracks total, it’s called Locals Only and you can download the ZIP file over HERE
