HIP HOP TWOSDAYS: GRAND PUBA

grandpuba

The Grand Pu! The leader of the Brand Nubian who broke off solo around ’91 and was unfuckwittable for a good minute around ’93-’94.  Here’s a couple of summer tinged solo joints from one of the best emcees to ever do it.

From hitting skinz to blessing beats, Puba was and is one of the illest and always does it with a smooth and laid back style.  He’s got a new album coming out in June called “Retroactive”.  With production and guest spots from Q-Tip and Large Professor, among others, this LP’s shaping up to be a heater for the boom box.

Puba should have stuck around with Masters of Ceremony. Dynamite was a killer album, and those guys definitely had the talent to go mainstream big time. Too bad his ego issues got the better of him. Nothing more than a bloated middle aged MC who’s still trying to stay cool and in the loop.
