lumeneclipse

The fine feathered folks at Lumen Eclipse have decided to incorporate N.A.S.A. & Three Legged Legs’ innovative collaboration for the “Gifted” video into their new and exciting art project entitled “Somatic Death, Soma Life” taking place in the heart of Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA (yeah, Boston!).

They will be broadcasting N.A.S.A.’s “Gifted” alongside some other unique pieces from Belgium, Japan and the U.K. through March on two flat panel displays right out there in the streets for all to enjoy as they go about their busy days/nights.

Curated by Jameson Wallace and sponsored by the Motion Graphics Festival the creative idea behind the project is as follows…

At the moment of separation of the body from the brain, our ability to differentiate thought from prosthetic breaks down.  Our body extends as far as our effect, far beyond our ability to see it happen.

Both the threat and promise of virtualization is that its nature will have a form of dance more appropriate to us than what we now call “human.”

REACH OUT WEST UP CYPHER PT. 3

DUKE

Was digging through some old music last night and was getting into this classic bumper from the king of the keytar, George Duke.  I knew knew knew I knew that sample from somewhere but couldn’t pinpoint it.  It was driving me nucking futs.

Then with a tingle in my spine and a twinkle in my eye it came to me, Frankie Cutlass! This was the jam way back when on the east coast with Frankie bringing back the old school Juice Crew to prove to the world that they could still rip shit.  Shante simply shatters it with that “Roxanne Shante stay creepin” line.

Turns out there was a west coast sibling to the track in WC’s “West Up!” feat. Ice Cube & Mack 10 before they formed like voltron for Westside Connection.  Apparently this thing was all over the radio here in L.A. and had people losing their minds.  Crazy that I never even heard of it until now, especially since it came out before Frankie got his hands on the sample.  I got some learning to do!

Panasonic announces Technics production to cease in February 2010

The Technics SL-1200 and Technics SL-1210 turntables have shaped the world we know today. Featured in the London Museum of Science and Technology they are regarded as a major stepping stone in how music is played and presented.

We have just heard the sad new from Panasonic (the manufacturer of Technics) that production of the world famous Technics SL-1200 and SL-1210 DJ turntables will stop at the end of February 2010. This marks the end of an era – Technics have been the industry standard for over 35 years with this turntable and the SL-1200 is synonymous with the DJ culture. It has been released and re-released over 9 times with different models and numerous other manufacturers have tried to compete with this deck, but above all, the Technics SL-1200 & Technics SL-1210 are the undisputed number one deck in the world.

Pure 80′s whimsical magic right here.  Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark capped off their classic 1984 album, Junk Culture, with this subtle-with-the-funk reflective jam.  Those horn pads are so infectious!
