cosmic-love-nasa-gifted

The mighty Belgian that is Masuka blessed us with this atomic bomb via e-mail and we couldn’t be much happier as he puts Gifted through the dub step grinder to brilliant effect.  Can you believe this shit is the first track he’s ever produced?!

N.A.S.A. GOES TO AFRICA!

Africa1

Just got back from an amazing trip to Africa where i was doing lots of recording for the new N.A.S.A. record and also the Maximum Hedrum record. Spent some time in Ethiopia hanging with Ras Congo and my new friend Israel who is Mulatu Estatke’s music director.  He was a good dude and really showed me the musical landscape down there.

I told him that i wanted to record some people playing traditional Ethiopian music, and not the Ethiojazz that i’m more familiar with, and he ended up taking me to this village in the south of Ethiopia where his family is from called Dorze, and i ended up staying there for a couple of days and recording the villagers there doing their local songs.

The kids got down too…

and i slept in this grass hut while i was there…

Africa4

After ethiopia, i headed down to South Africa> We started in Johannesburg, where we went to a friendly World Cup game in Soweto (the worlds largest slum).

Africa5

I recorded a women’s choir from Soweto before leaving Joburg, too… They were the best choir i have ever worked with, and good vibes too…

Africa6

After Joburg, i headed down to Cape Town where i linked up with Spoek Mathambo from Sweat X.  He is a great dude, and we hit it off.  He linked me up with some percussionists, and we ended doing a song, too.  spur of the moment, i flipped some of the stuff that i recorded in Ethiopia for the track…look out for this new N.A.S.A. music…

Fresh off all of that inspiration, i’m back in LA, now cooking up some serious chicken grease in the studio…

Two delicious chunks of that delicious Wu Gravy for you today…slimmed down and spiked up for today’s listeners with two distinct but equally as ferociously enjoyable takes on the legendary classic of Cash Rules Everything Around Me.

One a Cumbia master’s bass heavy re-working that’ll make you wish you protected that neck from Sonido Del Principe and the other a dip dive into the depths of the breaks movement by your boy DJ Moneyshot.  Put your potholders on people, shit’s hot!

Donald+Byrd

I’m here to smooth it out for you baby, help you ease on in to the week with some classic Donald Byrd from 1981 off the album “Love Byrd” which was produced and written by the legendary Isaac Hayes.

This here Cosmic Boogie edit’s stripped down to the core to create more of a slow draggin’ instrumental out of it…”stretched out in places to build up, chopped and changed around”.  Dig on it.
