illvibeblends_cover What do you get when you combine Biggie with that stripped down beat courtesy of East Flatbush Project?  The same thing you get when you merge the vocal ferocity of Dead Prez with the neck snappin' crispness of Masta Ace....Ill Vibes! Consisting of members Mr. Sonny James, DJ Skipmode, Lil Dave, Panek and Phillee Blunt, these dudes come correct with the blends and are generous enough to be giving an entire album's worth of them away for FREE!  Read more about it and scoop it all for no dollar$ right about HERE.

LADIES FIRST & FOREMOST

What's up ladies?!  Got something for ya!  The two sexy members of the original Native Tongues family put it down for the females with their explosive hit "Ladies First" back in 1989 that had everyone and there little brothers checking for Monie's debut a year later.

Right here's the title track with a nice lil' edit by the funky German Alkalino followed by a rendition of one the Queen's classics off her debut, "All Hail The Queen" masterminded by Boston's 7L who used the beat from Bobby Konders' '92 ragga hip hop jam "Mack Daddy" to put a Jamaican spin on tingz.  The early '90's ruled, huh?

R>I>P> RAMMELLZEE

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

One of the original pioneers in both the M.C. and graffiti fields of hip hop, Rammellzee was a huge influence to countless young b-boys all over the world as he was a big part of two of the most important hip hop films ever: Wild Style and Style Wars.

Rammellzee

From bombing trains with Dondi to having Jean-Michel Basquiat design the cover art to his single "Beat Bop" to rocking a quick but memorable cameo in Jim Jarmusch's Stranger Than Paradise, this dude was the coolest!

Here's one of his more famous joints which was featured in Style Wars...

COLORS PUT ON BY BIG L & ICE-T

Couple refreshingly unique twists of their originals today from Keph Le Roc out of Montreal who is one half of the Muscle Brothers with DJ Nerve.  The two canucks do a great job of breathing a nice n' modernized breeze into the Ice-T classic with the help of that somewhat snarling synthesized bass line grooving into ya like a hot knife in a cold stick of butter.

ICE-T - COLORS (MUSCLE BROTHERS REMIX)

putiton Then Keph goes all Sanford & Son with the trash cans n' horns route on this more light hearted take on Big L's coming out party of a single that left jaws to be swept off the floor and necks to be snapped back in place by chiropractors all over the mapsicles back in 1995.

Two delicious chunks of that delicious Wu Gravy for you today...slimmed down and spiked up for today's listeners with two distinct but equally as ferociously enjoyable takes on the legendary classic of Cash Rules Everything Around Me.

One a Cumbia master's bass heavy re-working that'll make you wish you protected that neck from Sonido Del Principe and the other a dip dive into the depths of the breaks movement by your boy DJ Moneyshot.  Put your potholders on people, shit's hot!

A LIGHTER SHADE OF BROWN…

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010
LSOB_Sunday It's the 1st of June and we all just enjoyed a long and hopefully relaxin' Memorial day weekend here in L.A.  Welcome to the summer y'all! Time was undoubtedly best spent watching the Dodgers on TV, grilling up some grub, guzzlin' down some brew and listening to laid back jams on the boom box like these two old school gems right here by Riverside's own Lighter Shade Of Brown.

A TRIBE DIRECTED BY RAPPAPORT

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Everyone's favorite Zebrahead, Michael Rappaport, has taken on the task of directing the long overdue A Tribe Called Quest documentary and we couldn't be more excited.

It's gearing up to debut at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival out in the hot tubs and snowy banks of the beautifully pristine Park City, Utah next January but for now here's a quick shoot-the-shit session with the 7-Eleven Slurpee straw lovin' Rappaport by the dudes over at The Hundreds.

Oh and figured this would be as good a time as any to share a couple ATCQ gemsies.  Enjoy yourselves...
