GORILLAZ ON THAT DISCO TIP

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Japan_Noodle_jpg

If you haven’t heard by now, Gorillaz are back with a vengenance and are all set to destroy Coachella in a couple of months.  Their lead single “Stylo” featuring Mos Def and living legend Bobby Womack has been spreading through the interscapes like the andromeda strain.

Since then there’s been a stack of remixes going around and I’m thinking I like this one the best, especially since it taps into the beautiful mind of Moroder for its influence and epic length.  A tip of the hat to the Death Metal Disco Scene!

The Revenge is burning hot right now and is fanning the flames with this amazing cover of the SOS Band classic “Just Be Good To Me” featuring the just as scalding vocal talents of Crazy P’s Danielle Moore.

In fact, it becomes a full on Crazy Revenge Penis collabo when Crazy P musician/DJ/producer Ron Basejam decides to remix the cover.  Madness!

THE TROUTMAN LEGACY LIVES ON…

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Thanks to B.Cause’s brilliant new mixtape “Playin’ Kinda Ruff” which collects, mixes and chops up all of the late, great legendary sounds of the one and the only Roger Troutman, we’ve all been bugging out, going ape shit and acting a fool ever since the first listen.

This guy knew no bounds with the talk box magic and his sounds were so crisp and so fucking funky.  G’damn!

Peep the interview above and some of the tracks you might not be as familiar with as the well known classics below.  Oh and make sure you download the B.Cause mix.  So so necessary!

TAKE 6 SPREAD MORE LOVE

Friday, November 13th, 2009

The dudes in Take 6 were more than blowing minds in the 90’s, they were harmonizing hearts into submission!   The above clips leaves no doubt that they were a force of nature. Beleeee Dat.

For your party record fridays pleasure, DJ Shepdog takes their amazing vocals and throws it on top of the break from Ike & Tina’s “Cussin’, Cryin’ & Carryin’ On”.  Pure Gold I tell you!

CLAP YER HANDS PHENOMENAL

PhenomenalHandclapBand

The Phenomenal Hand Clap Band has like 49 members (12 that tour) and each one of them throws funk in the bonfire.

They come from all angles of the musical map to bring you an “anthemic, dancefloor-oriented blend of progressive rock, disco, electro, and ’60s soul with sprinklings of hip hop-styled orchestral breakbeats and moody, synth-heavy hooks”.

Sounds good don’t it?!  Combine all of that with their stand out track “15 to 20″ being handled by the crazy capable mitts of The Glimmers and what you get is a certified stomper.

RYE RYE & COUSIN COLE GO BANG

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

ryerye_hearty51

Today I’ve got not just one but two super wylin’ blends from the amazing Cousin Cole who uses the jolted n’ abrasive lyrics of the young n’ talented Rye Rye (feat. M.I.A. & Blaqstarr) to beef up a couple of instrumental offerings.

First up is the ever-bouncy basslines of the Basement Jaxx (The track “Nifty” comes off a 2007 E.P. from their label, Atlantic Jaxx) followed by Limelife’s “Wanna Go Bang”, a certified Todd Terry classic.

Keep it up Cole!

BASEMENT JAXX: ROOT CHEW

basementjaxx2001rooty

Time to take a lil’ trip back to the early part of the decade and revisit a modern classic.

Basement Jaxx’s 2001 effort, Rooty, built upon the big time success of their previous album, Remedy, with a whopping 5 major singles (2 of which I’ve included below) that set dance floors ablaze the world wide over.

Most impressive to me is the Jaxx’s consistently crazy album cover artwork (which I think they reached the zenith on with Rooty) and have continued the trend with their new album “Scars” that just hit the shelves in the U.K. and soon enough here in the U.S.  Scoop that up and be sure to try and catch them on their current DJ set tour
