cosmic-love-nasa-gifted

The mighty Belgian that is Masuka blessed us with this atomic bomb via e-mail and we couldn’t be much happier as he puts Gifted through the dub step grinder to brilliant effect.  Can you believe this shit is the first track he’s ever produced?!

N.A.S.A. GOES TO AFRICA!

Africa1

Just got back from an amazing trip to Africa where i was doing lots of recording for the new N.A.S.A. record and also the Maximum Hedrum record. Spent some time in Ethiopia hanging with Ras Congo and my new friend Israel who is Mulatu Estatke’s music director.  He was a good dude and really showed me the musical landscape down there.

I told him that i wanted to record some people playing traditional Ethiopian music, and not the Ethiojazz that i’m more familiar with, and he ended up taking me to this village in the south of Ethiopia where his family is from called Dorze, and i ended up staying there for a couple of days and recording the villagers there doing their local songs.

The kids got down too…

and i slept in this grass hut while i was there…

Africa4

After ethiopia, i headed down to South Africa> We started in Johannesburg, where we went to a friendly World Cup game in Soweto (the worlds largest slum).

Africa5

I recorded a women’s choir from Soweto before leaving Joburg, too… They were the best choir i have ever worked with, and good vibes too…

Africa6

After Joburg, i headed down to Cape Town where i linked up with Spoek Mathambo from Sweat X.  He is a great dude, and we hit it off.  He linked me up with some percussionists, and we ended doing a song, too.  spur of the moment, i flipped some of the stuff that i recorded in Ethiopia for the track…look out for this new N.A.S.A. music…

Fresh off all of that inspiration, i’m back in LA, now cooking up some serious chicken grease in the studio…

GOLDEN SPACIOUS THOUGHTS

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

The stellar video for N.A.S.A.’s indomitable juggernaut of idiosyncratic freshness, “Spacious Thoughts” featuring Tom Waits and Kool Keith, picked up gold at the 2010 One Show Design Awards. Much thanks and reverence to the creative geniuses at Fluorescent Hill for their brilliant work and directorial expertise.

N.A.S.A. GOES TO THE MOOMBAH

Dave Nada (one half of the illustrious Nadastrom) just went ahead and invented a new genre called Moombahton.  Shit, why not?!

It all went down at his little cousin’s house party when he slowed an Afrojack remix down to 108 beats per minute. Since then, he’s been making reggaeton-tempo edits of Dutch house and tropical house, and clubs have been going crazy for the stuff.

Although Nada’s the godfather of the moo, various producers/remixers have jumped in on the pig pile and it was only a matter of time until N.A.S.A. got the feel good pitched down re-rub treatment.

This one’s based off the super duper DJ Alvaro remix of the club bang-a-langah “Whachadoin?”  So so irie stylie…

NASA_Coachella_Shentu_2

Remember this?!?  Last year was kinda epic over here in Squeak E. Land what with N.A.S.A. rocking the sweaty tent people to pieces and everything.  Can’t believe it’s been a full 365 days since but we’re all geared up and ready to slither on down to the desert once again.

Although Sam n’ Ze won’t be performing at the festival itself this year, they’ll be heating things up at the Merv Griffin estate on sunny Sunday afternoon for the Guess pool party at the Oasis.  Check it out below and hope to see you out there!

Sam n’ Ze (collectively forming like Voltron as N.A.S.A.) apparently met while skydiving in Bali (one of their many mutual obsessions).

At least that’s what they told the Roxy girls while being interviewed before shredding the stage at Mammoth Mountain for Roxy’s annual Chicken Jam.

Check out more pics and tidbits at their re-cap right HERE and a super special chair lift interview with Torah Bright below…
