Undeniable funk legend Jimmy Castor regretfully passed away yesterday way too soon at the age of 64. His catalog is riddled with brilliance but his major contribution that will stand the test of time is creating every B-Boy’s wet dream back in 1972. Rest In Peace Jimmy.
Our homie Jonathan Wells has been tabbed a co-curator of “Spectacle: The Music Video,” opening March 3 at the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, Ohio and we are thrilled he’s selected N.A.S.A.’s “Way Down” as one of the entries. Read below on his thoughts on what makes a music video great…
“A great music video combines music and moving image in a package that transcends its individual elements. “Spectacle” presents the genre’s role as an important and influential art form in contemporary culture; both its antecedents and likely future; and its place as a fertile playground for creative experimentation”
Our amazingly talented super homie Sage Vaughn will be making his triumphant return to Los Angeles this Friday night at the Known Gallery for the opening reception of his latest work entitled “Last Year”.
The reception is from 8-11pm and will be on display through January 29th. “Last Year” marks Sage’s first solo show at Known and will feature new large-scale woven editions of paintings and collages from his ongoing “Envelope” series. Come down to Fairfax Avenue Friday night and take it all in with us!
If you’re unfamiliar with Sage’s work, get a taste of it’s haunting beauty in N.A.S.A.’s “Way Down” video (featuring our very own Barbie Hatch, RZA, & John Frusciante) below.
